An essential part of every perfect steak dinner is choosing the right side dish. There are so many options, it may seem like a daunting task. That's what we're here for.

Read on for some of the best side dishes for steak dinners that will have your guests or customers in love with not only the steak, but the whole plate of food.

Potato-based Side Dishes for Steak

The potato is a classic side dish to serve with a steak dinner. However, there are plenty of different ways to serve the potatoes, all with their own delicious twist.

Grilled baked potatoes is a unique take on the classic baked potato that is perfect for summer days grilling out. Making this only requires a 5-10 minute par-boil prior to grilling. This makes it an easy dish to prepare, even if you're taking your food and grill away from the home.

Loaded Scalloped Potatoes is another delicious potato dish to serve with steak. This is more of a sit-down dinner kind of potato dish, as it requires baking and quite a bit more preparation. Load these potatoes up with cheese and bacon for extra flavor.

Mashed Potatoes are a classic side dish for any hearty meal, and steak is certainly no exception. These are easy to prepare and can be made ahead of time and reheated if you're taking this dish on the road for a potluck or barbeque.

Salads

Looking for something a little lighter to serve with your steak dinner? Salads come in all shapes, sizes, and flavors. Read on for some of our favorite salad sides.

Watermelon Salad is a delicious accompaniment to steak for a classy summer dinner party. It's light, refreshing, and visually appealing.

To make the perfect watermelon salad, mix together olive oil with salt and pepper and vinegar. Add your watermelon, arugula, onions, and croutons, and toss it all together. Once it's on the plate sprinkle it with some feta cheese and sea salt.

Mediterranean Zucchini and Chickpea Salad is a fresh, delicious salad that's great to make in big batches for those summer potluck parties. It requires a lot of ingredients, but the flavor is worth the preparation.

To make this, chop up zucchini, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, kalamata olives, capers, rosemary, and basil, and mix it all together with chickpeas, olive oil, vinegar, and salt and pepper. Once it's all together, chill the salad in the fridge until you're ready to break it out. The cooler the better!

Want a warm salad to compliment your hot steak? The Grilled Hearts of Romaine Salad is delicious and ridiculously easy to make. It's the perfect salad to make while you're grilling out in the backyard since you won't need to bounce back to the kitchen to prepare it.

To make this, simply halve romaine lettuce hearts lengthwise, brush them with some olive oil and set them on the grill. Once they're grilled to perfection, top them with a little parmesan cheese and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar.

Wedge Salad is a hearty salad and a delicious classic. It may not be the healthiest salad options, but it's certainly one of the most delicious.

To make this one, take a big wedge of iceberg lettuce, add tomatoes and bacon crumbles, and douse that bad boy in blue cheese dressing.

Grilled Vegetables

If you're out slaving over a hot grill on a summer day, you're going to want to make the most of your time out there. There's no sense running between the grill and the kitchen to make a side dish when one of the best options can be made right alongside your steaks.

Grilled vegetables are versatile, easy, and delicious. The classics like green beans and asparagus are readily available and only require a little seasoning.

If you wanna spice things up, try grilling some shishito peppers. They add a nice little kick and are still easy to prepare. Other delicious vegetables that can be grilled rather than roasted include mushrooms and brussel sprouts.

Rice as a Side Dish

You may not normally think of rice as a side dish for steak, but why not? It's a common side for plenty of other meals, and it's a versatile ingredient that you can put a steak side twist on.

For example, pairing mushrooms with steak is a common practice, so why not make a rice dish full of mushroom, onions, and some sauteed greens.

If you want to add a little Mexican twist to your steak, consider doing something like cilantro-lime rice. It's easy to make, and pairs perfectly with a steak and fresh salsa for a unique steak dinner.

Pasta Side Dishes

We've given you a lot of great recipes for grilling out on a summer day, but steak is good for all occasions! If you're looking for a nice night in with a steak dinner, pasta can be the perfect side dish.

One of our favorite pasta side dishes is pesto tortellini. It can be done as a chilled side dish, hot and fresh out of the pot, or even as a summer skewer with some fresh cherry tomatoes!
